Outdoor Adventures at Orewa College

In addition to regular classes, Orewa College offers the opportunity for International Students to experience outdoor activities, trips and fun!

The New Zealand Experience class is part of the scheduled timetable and International Students can choose to take this course as part of their regular programme, within school hours.

It involves learning about various aspects of New Zealand life and culture both within and outside of the classroom. Examples of the activities include snowboarding, learning the haka, bush walks, beach activities. Please click here to view some photos of the activities.

Orewa College also offers Kiakaha optional outings and trips outside of class time. These are immensely popular and are also organised and escorted by Orewa College teacher Mr Joe Duffett. (Mr Duffett also teaches the New Zealand Experience class).

My name is Maria, I am 16 years old and I am from Argentina. I came to Orewa College one month ago and unfortunately I am leaving next week.

I had the best time here, people are very friendly and I made friends from all around the world. I truly recommend everyone to come for the longest time you can (I have to leave now because my school in Argentina does not allow me to miss classes, I would stay if I could, and I really want to come back).

It may sound crazy but I love coming to school when I am here. People here are so nice and friendly. I have been surfing, visited the Coromandel, and done day trips all around.

I will be back!!!

Bonjour! Je suis Pauline!!! I am from Belgium and have been at Orewa College for eight months. During this time, apart from loving my school life, I have done a lot of things and I have seen a lot of New Zealand.

I have had a great time caving, surfing and meeting heaps of people from all over the world.

These months at Orewa College have been the best experience of my life so far!!!!

The New Zealand Experience trips are not just having a lot of fun and doing many outdoor activities which are not able to be done in other countries, it is also feeling the kiwi spirit and the lifestyle and getting closer with your group. The fun is the best thing though.

Mr Duffett’s trips are the best! You can go caving, snorkelling and visit heaps of places for a good price. It is worth it.
